Jack & Jill Bridal Showers

Jack && Jill Bridal Showers

Jack and Jill bridal showers are increasing in popularity, and many couples are throwing them instead of standard bridal showers. Here’s what you need to know about this unique type of party and whether it is right for you.

What is a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower?

It’s a party for the bride and groom, with their friends and family. When deciding who to put on this invite list, think more of the couple’s contemporaries and family that wouldn’t want to miss out on any celebration. The guest list for this can be pared down, or more inclusive, depending on where you decide to have it.

Why are They Growing in Popularity?

The party is less about formality and more about fun. Grooms are more involved in planning the wedding now, and couples create their registrys together, so the gifts are more diverse. Showers are about giving gifts to the couple, so it makes sense that the groom would be there to open his BBQ equipment or bar accessories. Couples like to give other couples gifts that they received and enjoyed on their own wedding day. Many of these parties have a relaxed venue or menu. Cookouts, pool parties, even cocktails at your favorite restaurant or lounge. This need not mean that the ladies don’t get together for a more traditional shower, it just gives everyone a chance to come together and enjoy each other’s company.

What are Some Fun Games or Activities for a Jack and Jill Bridal Shower?

To play or not to play; that is the question. If you do decide to have games of any sort, keep them light-hearted. If you plan a cookout, you may want to play lawn games, or a version of the Newlywed Game. My husband and I, and his future in-laws, played against him and his fiancé. We called it the Soon-to-Be and the Not So Newlywed game. We asked the same 4 questions of each couple, and the answers added their own comedic twist to the game.

Jack and Jill bridal showers can be a fun way to replace the traditional bridal shower and get the groom involved, or it can be in addition to a traditional bridal shower. It’s a great way to get together with family and friends and celebrate your upcoming nuptials.
